When trimming nails, we advise you to use proper nail clippers to avoid fractures. Then use a natural nail file to gently file from each side to the centre. Avoid a sawing action. The length you keep your nails will depend on the tasks you use your hands for, but if you have weak or brittle nails keep them short to reduce breaks. Nails grow at different rates in the summer and winter and is dependant on your general health and factors such as medication.
Lack of moisture causes dry cuticles and hangnails – bits of skin that tear away from, but are still attached to, the base or side of the nail. The easiest way to keep them in good order is to apply cuticle oil to the area and rub it in daily. After taking a bath or a shower gently push back the cuticles with a towel. Never cut them as they form a protective barrier to stop bacteria from entering the body – leave the trimming of cuticles to the professionals! Keep a moisturiser in your handbag and apply several times a day to hands and cuticles to stay hydrated and conditioned.
Buffing increases circulation which helps promote nail growth. It can also remove stains and give nails a smoother surface for polish to adhere to. The buffer has a rough side to smooth out ridges and a smooth side to add shine. Be careful not to over-buff – it shouldn’t take more than three to five swipes of the rough or smooth side to smooth out or shine one nail. Only buff nails once a week – any more and you could thin the nail too much. Always use acetone-free polish remover to prevent drying your nails and skin. Finish with a slick of good base coat and you will always have nails you can be proud of.

I would just like to say a big thank you to all of you who attended our Pamper & Sale Event on 10th July at Chobham Community Centre. The day was a great success despite the heat, and a good sum of money was raised for the Woking Hospice. We had 22 stall holders in total and 3 therapists working and we were all busy throughout the day. We intend to do another pamper event on a smaller scale sometime in September so please watch this space!
With summer approaching, its that time of year when the socks come off and the feet come out, but after months of neglect during winter, this can be a daunting prospect for many of you.
So my advice to you is to come to our Beauty Salon in Sandhurst for a Deluxe Pedicure! During the 1hr and 15 mins treatment you will have your feet exfoliated, moisturised, toe nails filed and cuticle work carried out, masque applied and a foot and leg massage followed by nail polish of your choice.
This treatment is great for getting your feet and toe nails in tip top condition ready for the beach with the added bonus of receiving a relaxing heavenly treatment. Each pedicure is tailored to the client and their nail needs.
Many of my clients ask me what can they do at home to improve the condition of their feet and maximise the benefits of the treatment they have received from me. I always advise that after having a bath or shower to use a pumice stone to remove any rough skin from the heels then to moisturise their feet. In addition moisturising the cuticles with cuticle oil will improve the condition which will help the overall appearance of nail polish applied.
